New Delhi: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and other Supreme Court Judges on Wednesday felicitated Pragya, the daughter of a cook in the Supreme Court, for securing a scholarship to study master's in Law in the United States.

Pragya has recently received a scholarship to study for a master's in law at two different universities in the US. One from the University of California and the other from the University of Michigan in the US.

During the morning hours, the Judges gathered in their lounge before beginning their day's work to applaud Pragya's achievements.

The CJI while congratulating Pragya presented her with three books on the Indian Constitution, signed by all the Judges of the Supreme Court.

Pragya said it’s a privilege and an honour for me. Touched by the gesture of the CJI and other judges of the court, the 25-year-old lawyer said Justice Chandrachud was an inspiration for her.

"With the live streaming of court hearings, everyone can watch him speaking. He encourages young lawyers and his words are like gems. He is my inspiration," the lawyer said.

She is the daughter of Ajay Kumar Samal, a cook at the Supreme Court.

Ajay Kumar Samal has been working as a cook in the Court for the past more than 20 years. The CJI congratulated him and said, “It is a matter of pride for all of us.”.

"We know Pragya has managed something on her own, but we will ensure that she manages to get whatever is required... We expect that she should come back to serve the country," Justice Chandrachud said after felicitating the young lawyer.

Other judges wished her luck in her future endeavours.

Chandrachud offered shawls to the beaming father and mother who responded with folded hands.

Ajay Kumar touched the feet of Justice Chandrachud and sought his blessings.
