Former Home Minister and veteran Congress leader Shivraj Patil on Friday clarified his 'Krishna-Arjun jihad' remark.

In a video released by news agency ANI, Patil can be seen clarifying his controversial statement, “Will you call Krishna's lessons to Arjun jihad? No. That's what I was saying.”

"Quran Sharif says there is only one God and it has no form. Christianity and Judaism also say the same thing that God is there but there can't be any idol. Gita also says God has no colour and no form," Patil further said.

"In Hindu dharma, if you kill anyone who does something right, it's called jihad. If you kill Mahatma Gandhi, it is Jihad. The act of killing him is Jihad," he added.

What he earlier said?

At a book launch event on Thursday, Shivraj Patil said in Hindi, “it is said there is a lot of discussion of jihad in the religion of Islam. The concept comes to the fore when despite having the right intentions and doing the right thing, nobody understands or reciprocates, then it is said one can use force. It is not just in Quran, but in Mahabharata also, the part in Gita, Shri Krishna also talks of jihad to Arjun and this thing is not just in Quran or Gita but also in Christianity.

"If after explaining everything, people are not understanding, they are coming with weapons then you cannot run, you cannot call that jihad and you cannot call it wrong, this is what must be understood, there should not be this concept of making people understand with weapons in hand," the 87-year-old Congress leader said.
