Did Pakistan Fail To Pay Hotel Bill Where US-Iran Peace Talks Was Held?

Advertiesment
Islamabad's Serena Hotel
The recent US–Iran talks held in Islamabad may have ended without a breakthrough, but a fresh controversy has now taken center stage—who paid the hotel bill? The issue has triggered widespread debate, with conflicting claims emerging over whether the Pakistan government cleared the expenses at the luxury Serena Hotel.

The high-level talks were hosted at the Serena Hotel, a five-star property located near Islamabad’s diplomatic enclave, known for hosting global leaders and major international events. The hotel, equipped with hundreds of rooms, banquet halls, and top-tier facilities, was fully reserved for the delegations for five days.

According to several reports circulating on social media, the Pakistan government did not pay for the stay. Instead, it is being claimed that the hotel’s owner waived the entire bill, offering accommodation and hospitality free of charge.

However, the situation remains unclear. In a report by 'Bloom Pakistan', sources close to the Aga Khan Development Network, which owns the Serena Hotel, have reportedly denied these claims, stating there is no confirmation that the organization covered the expenses related to the talks.

At the same time, a different version has emerged from local media discussions. During a talk show, senior journalist Hamid Mir claimed that the hotel owner had indeed waived all charges, and the Pakistan government did not pay anything for the event.

Adding to the confusion, Serena Hotel’s management has suggested that the owner offered to host the delegations free of cost as a gesture toward promoting global peace, and that the offer was accepted.

The talks themselves, held primarily on April 11 and 12, lasted around 21 hours but failed to produce any concrete outcome. Despite the diplomatic deadlock, the focus has now shifted to the billing controversy, which continues to raise questions and fuel speculation.
