Fake currency notes worth Rs 1.30 crore with photo of veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher instead of Mahatma Gandhi have been seized in Gujarat by Ahmedabad Police.

The notes also featured ‘Resole Bank of India’ instead of ‘Reserve Bank of India’. Videos of the currency notes have gone viral on social media with many expressing shock at the incident.

‘The Kashmir Files’ actor has also reacted to the news. Sharing the video of a news report about the fake notes recovery on his social media accounts, he wrote in Hindi, “Lo ji kar lo baat. 500 sau ke note par Gandhiji ki photo ki jagah meri photo?? Kuchh bhi ho sakta hai! (My photo instead of Gandhiji’s photo on the five hundred rupee note? Anything can happen!)”.

As per reports, the notes were recovered after a bullion firm owner, Mehul Thakkar, was duped for Rs 1.60 crore. A case has been registered against unidentified persons in Ahmedabad.

As per reports, Mehul Thakkar told the police that two people wanted to buy 2100 grams of gold. He delivered the gold to the accused men in city’s Navrangpura area through his employee Bharat Joshi, who in return, received a plastic cover. Joshi claimed the cover was filled with cash worth Rs 1.3 Crore. While he were counting the notes, the men promised to return with the remaining Rs 30 lakh but vanished with the gold before Joshi realized the notes were fake.

Recently, a fake currency manufacturing unit operating in the office of an online garment store was busted in Surat city of the state, and four persons were arrested.
