In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the city, a 70-year-old woman was brutally murdered by a 17-year-old migrant worker at her residence in Hyderabad. The teenager recorded a disturbing video of himself dancing on the victim's body and later shared it with one of her relatives, revealing the crime.

The deceased has been identified as Kamala Devi, a native of Rajasthan who had been residing in Krishna Nagar, Kushaiguda, for over three decades. She lived alone after the death of her husband 15 years ago and survived on the rental income of about Rs 50,000 per month from a few shops she owned.

Murder Over Grudge

According to police, the accused was a worker at one of the shops Kamala Devi rented out. Investigations revealed that the victim had recently scolded the teenager, leading to a grudge that allegedly triggered the crime.

"On the night of April 11, around 11:30 pm, the accused entered her house and attacked her with an iron rod,” said Kushaiguda Inspector L Bhaskar Reddy.

“Then, he strangled her with a sari and attempted to hang it from a ceiling fan. While tying her to the ceiling fan, he danced on her body, which was in a partial supine position on the bed and recorded a video of himself. After committing the murder, he locked the door before fleeing the scene, discarding the house key nearby,” said the official.

Murder Video Sent to Relative

The crime came to light two days later when the accused contacted one of Kamala Devi’s relatives in Bengaluru on the night of April 13. Initially skeptical of the claim, the relative demanded proof — after which the accused sent him the disturbing video.

Alarmed, the Bengaluru relative forwarded the video to another acquaintance in Kushaiguda, who immediately informed local authorities. When police arrived at the residence on April 14, they detected a foul odor coming from inside. Upon forcibly opening the door, they found Kamala Devi’s body in an advanced stage of decomposition.

The body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for autopsy. A murder case has been registered under relevant IPC sections, and the accused has reportedly been taken into custody for further questioning.
