Ranchi: Suspended BJP leader and spouse of a retired IAS officer Seema Patra was on Wednesday sent to Birsa Munda Central till September 12 in judicial custody.
The woman was arrested in the morning following an FIR against her for perpetuating atrocities against a poor tribal girl and was produced before a city court for further legal action after a proper medical examination at the Sadar Hospital.
She claimed that she had been framed in the case while she was being taken to court lock up after the judicial order. Her face was covered with a black scarf when she was being escorted by a section of women constables on the way to the lock-up from the court.
The arrest comes after a video went viral in which her domestic help Sunita Khakha narrated how the ex-BJP leader tortured her for eight years.
Sunita has alleged that she was held captive by Patra for eight years and was beaten with rods and iron pan. She also accused that Patra used to force to lick urine off the floor.
As legal action was being taken against Patra a team of the National Commission for Women met the victim Sunita Khakha who is undergoing treatment at RIMS.
The two-member commission team including Shivani Dey and Shalini Kumari questioned the victim to submit its report on the matter.
The situation arose after an FIR was registered against Patra a resident of Ashok Nagar under different IPC sections including 323, 325, 346 and 374 besides section 3 of the Prevention of ST /ST Atrocity Act at Argora police station.
The BJP had suspended her after the FIR was registered.
