Kin donates eyes of deceased rickshaw puller

Puri:Good deeds never go unnoticed! A poor rickshaw puller's family here on Saturday donated the eyes of their deceased kin who had lost his life by drowning in the Narendra Pond on Thursday.
The deceased Kartik Behera of Mangalasahi near Narendrakona area used to earn a living by pulling a rickshaw. He has an elder brother Suresh and widow mother Rupa Behera besides his wife Tukuni and six-month-old baby boy.
 
When Kartik was bathing in Narendra pond on Thursday, he slipped into the water and drowned. Locals fished out his body and rushed to district head quarter hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
 
However, before the post mortem was conducted, Kartik’s mother and elder brother informed the doctor to donate his eyes as he wished to donate his body parts after his death.
The Hospital doctor contacted LV Prasad Eye Institute in Bhubaneswar which agreed to collect the eyes for Eye Bank. Two experienced doctors reached and removed both the eyes of the deceased Kartik.
 
The incident triggered an emotional atmosphere in the hospital. Residents lauded the act of Kartik family and urged the administration to support the bereaved family, as Kartik was the only earning member and his death has left the family in both emotional and financial distress.
