In a chilling incident, a woman’s severed head was found at a garbage dump south Kolkata’s Tollygunge area. Police have claimed to have cracked the case in 24 hours.
According to the police, the woman was allegedly killed by her brother-in-law as she had snubbed his sexual advances.
While the severed head of the woman was found in a garbage dump near Graham Road on Friday, other parts of her body, like the torse and lower portion were found on Saturday beside a pond in the Regent Park area.
The accused, identified as Atiur Rahman Laskar, is a construction worker and was arrested from his native village in Basuldanga, Diamond Harbour, in South 24 Parganas district.
Laskar confessed to killing the woman, who was separated from her husband two years ago. The victim, who worked as a domestic help in the Regent Park area, would commute to work every day along with him as he also worked in Tollygunge, said DCP (South Suburban) Bidisha Kalita during a press conference.
Kalita said Laskar wanted a relationship with her and, as she rejected his advances, he got furious. “She started avoiding him a week back and it added to his anger. She also blocked his phone number. On Thursday evening (December 12), after she was done with work, he forced her to accompany him to an under-construction building. He strangulated her there and then beheaded her. He cut the body in three parts and dumped those," the police officer said.
Police are also investigating if other people were involved.
