A late-night incident at Mumbai’s Ram Mandir railway station has taken social media by storm after a man’s quick thinking and extraordinary bravery helped save a woman and her newborn baby. Around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, a woman traveling on a local train went into sudden labor, prompting a bystander to step in and assist her in delivering the baby — right there on the station platform.
The man’s heroic act reminded many of Aamir Khan’s character “Rancho” from the film 3 Idiots, where a similar childbirth scene takes place.
How the Incident Unfolded
Eyewitness Manjeet Dhillon, who shared the story on Instagram, described how the man sprang into action after noticing the woman in distress. He pulled the train’s emergency chain, stopping it immediately to help her.
“This man is truly brave — words aren’t enough to describe him. The baby was already halfway out — half inside and half outside. It truly felt like God had sent him there for a reason,” Dhillon wrote.
Doctor Guided the Delivery Over Video Call
A video shared online shows the man, visibly emotional, saying:
“Pehli baar kiya hai jeevan mein maine yeh. Itna darr lag raha tha na, par video call pe madam ne help kiya.”
(“It’s the first time I’ve ever done this in my life. I was really scared, but a doctor guided me over a video call.”)
According to Dhillon, emergency services were delayed, and after multiple calls, a female doctor joined via video call and guided the man through the delivery process step by step. “He did exactly what she instructed,” Dhillon said.
Hospital Allegedly Refused to Help Earlier
Dhillon also revealed that the woman’s family had earlier gone to a nearby hospital but were denied assistance, forcing them to return to the train. “It’s truly shameful that a hospital refused to help a mother in such a situation,” he added.
After the successful delivery, passengers and railway staff helped transport the mother and newborn to a hospital, where both were reported to be safe and in stable condition.
The man identified himself as Vikas Bendre, in the video.
The man’s selfless act has gone viral, drawing widespread praise online. One user commented, “Goosebumps!! It’s rare to see this kind of brave human beings, especially in this era!” Another wrote, “Real Hero without uniform.” Several other users called him real life ‘Rancho’.
The incident stands as a powerful reminder that humanity and courage still shine through in the most unexpected moments — earning this good Samaritan the title of ‘Real-Life Rancho.’
