Ahead of their bilateral talks on the second day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Israel visit, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu surprised his Indian counterpart by wearing traditional Indian-style attire at a dinner meeting.
Netanyahu shared a video on social media platform X, where he was seen dressed in a white full-sleeve shirt paired with a light grey sleeveless jacket resembling a traditional Indian Nehru jacket. He completed the look with dark formal trousers and black formal shoes.
In a post written in Hindi, Netanyahu said, “Before our joint dinner, I surprised my friend Prime Minister Modi by wearing traditional Indian attire.”
First Indian PM to Address Israeli Parliament
Earlier, Netanyahu had described PM Modi as the “Lion of Asia” while welcoming him at the Israeli Parliament. Addressing the Knesset, PM Modi referred to Israel as the “Fatherland” and India as the “Motherland,” expressing pride in the strong ties between the two nations.
Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset. During his speech, the chamber echoed with chants of “Modi, Modi” from members.
Modi Honoured with ‘Speaker of the Knesset’ Medal
During his address, PM Modi expressed gratitude for being conferred with the ‘Speaker of the Knesset’ medal. He dedicated the honour to the enduring friendship between India and Israel and their shared democratic traditions.
