An elderly man from Rajasthan's Barmer district committed suicide after being subjected to relentless trolling by making memes on social media.
The shocking incident took place near Ganghat on Jodhpur-Phalodi State Highway in Lohawat town of the district.
The deceased, identified as Pratap Ram Singh, was a resident of Chohtan village in Barmer district of Rajasthan. He used to collect plastic bottles and other waste material and sell it for a living on a handcart.
According to police, Pratap Ram Singh had allegedly been harassed by the youngsters of the village for the past few days. They made fun of him and also made his videos and circulated it on social media.
His videos went viral on social media with the hashtag “bhangar leno hai thare” (Do you want to buy some waste).
As the videos went viral, more people started mocking him. Distressed over mockery, Pratab Ram Singh took his own life by hanging himself from a tree near the highway on Sunday night, the police said.
A case has been registered and investigation in the matter is underway,” the police said.
