A female prison guard had phone sex with a male prisoner and sent his mother more than 900 messages to maintain the relationship, Leeds Crown Court in West Yorkshire, northwest England has heard.
26-year-old Megann Gibson also allowed the convict into restricted areas of the prison and visited his home address, prosecutors told the judge.
Gibson, who pleaded guilty to misconduct in public and possession of cannabis, will be sentenced in August and has been warned she faces a prison sentence, the media reports said.
According to the charges against her, Gibson engaged in an “inappropriate relationship” with the inmate, including having “sexual communications via telephone,” while she was working at HM Prison Wealstun.
She also texted the convict’s mother more than 900 times, reportedly in a bid to stay in contact with him.
It was also mentioned in the court that Gibson was undergoing assessment for mental health conditions, including PTSD, linked to a previous relationship, at the time of her fling with the inmate.
She was released on unconditional bail but a judge warned that her offense was a “serious matter” and she will be serving a prison sentence.
Gibson lives with her mom and sister in a Leeds suburb. She has been suspended by Wealstun, a Category C prison that houses lower-risk inmates.
At least 29 female prison guards have lost their jobs in the last three years over illicit relationships with convicts.
