In a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district, two policemen allegedly stole a mobile phone from a showroom, with the entire act captured on CCTV.
According to reports, the incident took place in the Line Bazar police station area, where the two officers visited a mobile showroom pretending to purchase a phone. Upon arrival, they asked a female staff member to show them an iPhone.
While examining the devices, one of the policemen allegedly swapped his own iPhone 13 Pro with a brand-new iPhone 15 Max from the showroom and slipped it into his pocket. CCTV footage shows both officers smiling at each other after the exchange. After some casual conversation, they left the store without making any purchase.
A few hours later, during routine stock verification, the showroom owner discovered that a phone was missing. He reviewed the CCTV footage, which revealed the theft. The footage also confirmed that the two individuals involved were posted with the Jaunpur Police. They were identified as Mithilesh Yadav and Dhananjay Bind.
The showroom owner subsequently filed a complaint against the two constables at the police station. On Sunday, the stolen mobile phone was recovered and returned to the shop owner.
City SP Ayush Srivastava stated that the matter was taken seriously. Both constables, Dhananjay Bind and Mithilesh Yadav, have been suspended, and a departmental inquiry has been ordered.
