New Delhi: A video of AAP councilor Haseeb-ul-Hasan from East Delhi is going viral wherein he can be seen standing chest deep inside an overflowing sewage drain and cleaning the floating debris using a rake.
After the clean-up, Hasan's supporters gave him a bath in milk, much in the style of actor Anil Kapoor in Bollywood blockbuster "Nayak".
Hasan said the drain was overflowing and even after repeated complaints to officials, the BJP councilor and the local MLA didn’t help. So he decided to take matters in his own hands.
Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet on Tuesday cleared a proposal to merge the three municipal bodies in Delhi. Informed sources said the government would bring an amendment bill to unify the three municipalities in the ongoing Budget session of Parliament.
The decision was taken in order to strengthen the management and finances of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), the sources said. The Congress government in 2011 had trifurcated the municipal corporation by passing the Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill.
The decision to merge the three civic bodies into one has come nearly a fortnight after the State Election Commission deferred the announcement for municipal polls, drawing sharp reactions from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which has since moved the Supreme Court. All three MCDs are currently ruled by the BJP but the AAP is hopeful of snatching them in the upcoming polls. (Inputs from UNI)
