Colombo: The Sri Lankan Army has launched an investigation after a video went viral on social media showing one of its officers kicking a civilian at a fuel station crowded with motorists desperate for petrol and diesel.
The incident took place at Yaggahapitiya in Kurunegala district. The attacker has been identified as a Lt. Colonel of the Army, the Daily Mirror reported on Monday.
Army spokesman Brigadier Nilantha Premaratne said a group of men who were at the filling station had interrupted its operations. They were also reported to have hurled abuses and interrupted the duties of the army and police on duty.
Two civilians have been arrested over the incident.
