India suffered a defeat against New Zealand in the third ODI played in Indore, losing the series 2–1. With this loss, Shubman Gill became the first Indian captain to lose a home ODI series to New Zealand. While the series defeat proved disappointing, the lone positive for India was Virat Kohli’s outstanding form with the bat.
Kohli scored two centuries in the three-match series, including a brilliant knock in the third ODI that ultimately went in vain. Known for his exceptional fitness and disciplined diet, Kohli is often seen experimenting with new nutrition routines. During the Indore match, he was spotted drinking a liquid that appeared to resemble pickle juice.
In a video that went viral on social media, Kohli can be seen sipping a dark-coloured liquid during a drinks break, which was sent onto the field by the team management. After taking a sip, he made a facial expression typically associated with consuming something sour.
Batting almost single-handedly, Kohli scored 124 runs off 108 balls in the third ODI. This innings marked his sixth score of fifty or more in his last seven ODI innings and his third century in that span. It was also Kohli’s 54th ODI century overall.
Against New Zealand, this was Kohli’s seventh ODI hundred—the most by any player against the Black Caps. New Zealand also became the fifth team against whom Kohli has scored more than 10 centuries across all formats of international cricket. No other cricketer has achieved this feat against more than three teams.
