UP Minister Kamal Rani Varun dies of COVID-19, CM Yogi cancels Ayodhya visit

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kamal Rani Varun, who had tested positive for coronavirus, passed away due to the infection here on Sunday.

This is the first corona casualty of an Uttar Pradesh minister.

The 62-year-old breathed her last at 0930 hours at the SGPGI on Sunday where she was being treated for COVID-19 since July 18.

SGPGI has confirmed about the death of the minister.

She suffered from pneumonia and later went in an acute respiratory distress syndrome a couple of days back.

UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, while expressing his grief over the death of his ministerial colleague, has cancelled his Ayodhya visit this afternoon.

A two time MP, Ms Varun was a BJP MLA from Ghatampur assembly segment in Kanpur.

The cremation would be held in Lanpur later in the day. (UNI)
