Beware! AI can steal passwords by listening to sound of keys being pressed

Hackers might use artificial intelligence tools to steal user passwords by listening to the sounds made by a keyboard while typing, says a new study

A team of computer scientists trained an AI model to identify the sounds produced by keystrokes

Researchers conducted the experiment using 2021 version of MacBook Pro and iPhone 13 Mini

The researchers said AI tool was able to reproduce the keystrokes with a stunning 95 percent accuracy from iPhone recording

The AI tool was also able to ‘listen’ to typing through the laptop’s microphone during a Zoom video conference with 93 percent accuracy

This type of attack is called acoustic side-channel attack

You can protect your passwords by using these simple tips

Create passwords with a mix of big and small letters. Also, use the ‘SHIFT’ key to add extra layers of protection

If you're on a video call, add some background noise near the microphone to confuse any potential eavesdroppers
