BIZARRE! Lioness ‘Sita’ housed with lion ‘Akbar’ at Siliguri Zoo, VHP moves court

A controversy has erupted over the naming of a lioness brought to Bengal Safari Park from Tripura.

A lion and a lioness were brought to West Bengal from Tripura as part of an animal exchange programme

The two big cats will be kept in the same enclosure at Siliguri's Bengal Safari Park

VHP claimed that the lioness was named ‘Sita’ and the Lion was named ‘Akbar’ by the state forest department

The VHP has moved the Calcutta High Court's Circuit Bench, challenging the forest department's decision

The VHP criticised the names as ‘irrational,’ ‘illogical,’ and ‘tantamount to blasphemy,’ arguing that they hurt religious sentiments

The Hindu outfit sought a change in the name of the lioness

They also demanded that no animal in any zoo should be named after any god or goddess of any faith in the future
