Bollywood lauds choice of 'Newton' as India's entry to Oscars

Mumbai:  Bollywood today hailed the choice of the Rajkummar Rao-starrer 'Newton' as India's entry to the Oscars in the Best foreign language film category.Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, whose films 'Aligarh' and 'Citylights' featured Rakummar Rao in lead roles, described 'Newton' as the best choice made from India in recent years.'Newton is India's entry to the Oscars.The best choice in years by the federation,'Mehta said in a tweet.

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar also welcomed the decision of the Film Federation of India to select 'Newton' as India's choice to the Oscars for the Best Foreign Film Category.
Congratulating Rakummar and the director of the Ananad L Rai, he said, 'Newton as India's official entry to the Oscars!Congratulations aanand l rai and Rajkummar Rao and their team.
I can imagine the joy you all must be feeling.' Earlier, Superstar Amitabh Bachchan also lauded the film for its cinematic brilliance.'Saw the film 'NEWTON' ..it’s stark reality was a treat to watch! An eye opener on many aspects .' Mr Bachchan said.

'Newton', a depiction of elections in the conflict-ridden jungles of Chhattisgarh, was chosen by the FFI as India's official entry at Oscars 2018, it was announced today.Starring Rajkumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Raghubir Yadav and Anjali Patil, the Hindi movie tells the story of a polling officer, Newton Kumar, whose mission is to conduct free and fair elections in the conflict-ridden jungles of Chhattisgarh.

The unanimous choice of Film Federation of India's selection committee, which was headed by Telugu producer C V Reddy, 'Newton,' was chosen from 26 entries, FFI secretary general Supran Sen said.Amit Masurkar, the director of the film, said it was a double celebration for the team."We are overjoyed.

The fact that the film released today doubles the happiness.We hope that people will now really head to the cinema halls to watch the film," 'Newton' was Masurkar's second directorial venture after the 2014 indie 'Sulemani Keeda.' Incidentally, the selection of the film as India's entry to the Oscars comes on a day when the film is being premiered in 350 cinema houses .
