K-Drama 'Snowdrop' perfect antidote to 'Gehraiyaan' hangover ahead of Valentine's Day

K-Drama 'Snowdrop' perfect antidote to 'Gehraiyaan' hangover ahead of Valentine's Day

New Delhi: If you thought the Korean wave, was just another wave think again, Indian new channels matinee dose of "Saas, Bahu..." update has just included Korean drama "Snowdrop" in their daily dose of TV-OTT masala twists.

Featuring lead singer of KPop group BlackPink's Kim Jisoo and South Korean actor Jung Hae-in, the love story is set amid North-South espionage fallout in the backdrop of a crucial election.

Snowdrop started streaming in India on Disney+Hotstar from February. Snowdrop is a bit mired in controversy over its storyline and has been criticised for being insensitive towards Korea's history. The original series was 20 episode long, but after censorship kicked in, four episodes were dropped.

The Kdrama is set in the backdrop of 1987, when South Koreans protested against its authoritarian government and sought democratic rule. It was a crucial time in the South Korean history.

The series revolves around the love story of Lim Soo ho and Eun Young ro amid the chaotic political situation. Lim is a North Korean spy while Eun a college student. Jisoo, who discovers Jung in a bloodied condition, hides him from government officials.

It was love at first sight and the chemistry between the duo is at another level. Petite Eun not only saves Lim from suspecting eyes of the Korean Army, but also drops her heart into his hands. And it is this forbidden love that will keep the audience glued.

The story is an emotional roller-coaster ride much like the triangular love plot of Shakun Batra's "Gehraiyaan" out on Amazon Prime.

However, unlike the Deepika-Siddhant-Ananya's angst-infidelity-prone tale, Snowdrop is dreamy-sad and fresh out of college romance. (UNI)
