Los Angeles: Just a week ago, Todd Philips announced that he is bringing back the Clown Prince of Crime in his upcoming sequel to the 2019 “Joker”. Things are now getting a little more interesting for 'Joker: Folie a deux' as Lady Gaga is in early talks to star as Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix, as the film is rumoured to be a musical.
Margot Robbie has been playing the Joker’s psychotic accomplice and girlfriend in the DCEU continuity, a different universe separate from Joker, since 2016’s Suicide Squad.
The character was originally called Harleen Quinzel, a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum and was tasked to cure Joker, but instead got manipulated by the psychopathic crime lord and fell in love with him, since then becoming his accomplice and girlfriend locked into a highly abusive and manipulative relationship.
In a funny twist, the sequel to a depressing psychological criminal drama story is going to potentially see Joker and Harley singing in the rain; now whether that does justice to the murderous psychopathy of the deranged crime couple or not is a question for another time for it could be stupid and demeaning or could be just as dark and freaky.
Phillips had earlier collaborated with Gaga as one of the producers on the 2018 film ‘A Star Is Born’, which earned Gaga an Oscar nomination for Best Actress and an Oscar win for Best Original Song. (UNI)
