Chennai: As the stage is set for release of Superstar Rajinikanth's upcoming film 'Darbar' on January nine, the MadrasHigh court while clearing its release in other areas, today banned its screening in Malaysia due to a financial dispute.
Mr Justice G Jeyachandran passed the order on a suit filed by Malaysia-based DMY Creations SDN BHD seeking to restrain the release of the film on the ground that its producer Lyca
Productions owed it over Rs 23 crore.

The Judge said the film could be released in Malaysia also if the producer furnished a bank guarantee equal to the dues in the name of the Registrar General of the Court or deposit it
into the credit of the suit.

Darbar, starring Rajinikanth and Nayanthara in the lead, was directed by A R Murugadoss. The much-hyped film, in which Rajini is playing the role of a cop, was scheduled to hit 7,000 screens across the world, barring Malaysia, until the dispute was settled.(UNI)
