Mumbai: Producer-actor Nikhil Dwivedi has shed light on the unusual title of his forthcoming film "Bandar" (Monkey in a Cage), helmed by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.
Dwivedi admitted that the title emerged almost by accident during the brainstorming sessions.
Nikhil confessed that he suggested "Bandar" as the title and later waved it off. But by then, director Anurag and the team grew so fond of it that they insisted the film title remain unchanged.
Talking about the protagonist's troubles, Nikhil said that the example of "Bandar" (Monkey) came to his mind automatically. Dwivedi explained, “When I was seeing the character’s journey, I kind of saw that usko har koi madari ki tarah idhar se udhar nacha raha tha (everyone was making him dance like a street monkey). A lot of times Anurag unknowingly said that the system is making him dance like a monkey. And one day he casually mentioned it, and I said, ‘Why don’t we keep the title as Bandar?’”
The film had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where Bobby Deol's never-before-seen avatar received strong praise. Critics hailed it as one of the strongest performances of his career. The film also stars Sanya Malhotra in a key role.
