Internationally-acclaimed Director Rahat Kazmi’s award-winning film, Lihaaf’s trailer is released on the OTT platform- Voot Select. The film premiering on July 31 on Voot Select as a part of #VootSelectFilm Fest.
As you know, the OTT platform is coming out with its one-of-its-kind, Voot Select Film Festival from July 24 onwards right at the comfort of your home! A plethora of films would be showcased in this eight days’ festival including almost fifteen critically acclaimed movies. Director Rahat Kazmi is on cloud nine as his two award-winning films, Lines & Lihaaf will be premiered during this festival.
The film, which is based on Ismat Chughtai's most controversial story, ‘Lihaaf,’ touching the theme of alternate sexuality & gender equality in society garnered a lot of media attention soon after its first look was unveiled at Cannes Film Festival by Oscar winner Marc Baschet and veteran filmmaker, Subhash Ghai. It has also won 11 international awards including the Best Actress Award won by Tannishtha Chatterjee in Mexico.
Not only this, the equally talented star cast of the film has received huge appreciation for their respective roles. Tannishtha Chatterjee, who has worked in more than 50 films, plays the role of Ismat Chugtai, the writer of this beautiful story. Meanwhile, Anushka Sen, who has almost 21 million followers on Instagram and is currently in the limelight for participating in Khatron Ke Khiladi, plays the role of young Ismat. Besides, the beautiful actress Sonal Sehgal, known for her film Aashayein with John Abraham, plays the role of the protagonist-‘begum’ in Lihaaf. Sonal has also co-written the script with Rahat Kazmi. Other talented star cast includes Mir Sarwar, known for films like Kesari and Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be seen in the role of 'Nawaab'. Singapore-based actress & producer Namita Lal will be seen playing 'Rabbo' while Shoib Nikash Shah plays the role of ‘Manto’. Nonetheless, Bollywood actor Virendra Saxena will also be seen playing an important role in the film along with Director Rahat Kazmi, who plays the role of Ismat Chughtai's husband.
Produced by Rahat Kazmi, Tariq Khan, Zeba Sajid, Namita Lal, Umesh Shukla and Ashish Wagh, the film has been co-produced by Oscar-winning producer Marc Baschet (known for Oscar-winning No Man’s Land and Lunch Box). Besides, Golda Sellam of Cinelink France, a film expert from Europe is a consultant on this project.
