Kasaragod: The book 'Story of a Reversion: How I Converted to Islam and Returned to Sanatana Dharma' authored by O Sruthi cautions girls in the country against falling prey to religious conversion in the name of love.
The news of Sruthi, belonging to a Havyaka Brahmin family in Kasaragod, converting into Islam as Rahmat had become highly controversial a few years ago.
The book narrates the life of Sruthi who realised the folly of converting and returned to Sanatana Dharma and resolved to be a full-time volunteer with Aarsha Vidya Samajam.
Shruthi also illustrates the fate of Kerala girls including Nimisha and Akhila and their journey to Iran to join ISIS after their conversion to Islam.
The book explains her journey from being a sceptic Hindu to a brainwashed Muslim woman and back to being a proud and self-respecting Sanathana Dharma follower.
"This Kerala-based girl's autobiography was first published in Malayalam in 2018 is now translated into English, so that it will give an insight to the girls in other States of India on the conversion tactics being used by fundamentalists," M Rajasekhara Panicker and Vishali Shetty, who translated it into English, told UNI.
She was born to Sankara Narayan Bhat and Saradamma at Perla in Kasaragod district of Kerala. Having earned an MA in English Literature, Sruthi started working as a school teacher.
She was drawn to Islam right from the initial days of her career. She went on to complete a course on Islam from Maunathul Islam Sabha in Ponnani and converted to Islam, and changed her name to Rahmat.
"Nearly five years ago, stunning reports of a few conversion cases were reported from Kasaragod. Amongst them was the conversion of a teacher born in a Brahmin family. That teacher was none other than myself," Sruthi said. (UNI)
