New Delhi: India reported 2,57,299 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the infection tally to 2,62,89,290, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.
Besides, the country also saw 4,194 more fatalities due to the virus, pushing the toll to 2,95,525. On Friday, the country recorded 4,209 deaths.
 
On a positive front, 3,57,630 patients recovered from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,30,70,365.
 
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 32,64,84,155 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus, of which record 20,66,285 tests were conducted in the past one day.
 
Currently, the country houses 29,23,400 active cases.On Friday, India had registered 2,59,591 Covid-19 cases.
 
 
29,644 fresh cases of COVID-19 in Maharashtra
 
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, 29,644 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded across the Maharashtra state, taking the total number of infections to 55,27,092.
 
The state also registered 555 more deaths, taking the overall death toll to 86,618.
 
Meanwhile, a record 44,493 patients recovered in the state, taking the total number of recoveries to 50,70,801.
 
The state's recovery rate currently stands at 91.74 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.57 per cent.
 
At present, there are 3,67,121 active cases across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, added the health authorities.In view of the second wave, strict restrictions have been extended up to May 31.(UNI)
