Highest single day spike recorded after 5 months, 53K cases, 251 succumbs

New Delhi: India on Thursday recorded 53,476 cases of COVID-19 infections, the highest single day rise in the country since November 6, 2020, the Union Health Ministry said.
The country also registered 251 deaths during the past 24 hours, while the active case count stands at 3.95 lakhs.
While Maharashtra registered 31,855 cases which is a new record for the state, Punjab stood second with 2,613 fresh infections.
 
Thane registers 2,869 new COVID-19 cases
Thane:The surfacing of as many as 2,869 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours has pushed the tally in the district to 2,96,023, the authorities said on Thursday.
 
With ten deaths registered in the same period the toll has mounted to 6,413. The mortality rate was 2.17 per cent, he added.
 
So far, 2,69,931 patients have recuperated from the infection, which took the recovery rate to 91.19 per cent. There were 19,679 active cases in the district at present, the official said.
 
In neighboring Palghar district, the COVID-19 case count has gone up to 48,005 while the death toll was 1,214 he said.
 
Covid-19: Marathwada  registers 4,672 new cases
Aurangabad:The eight districts of Marathwada region of Maharashtra registered 4,672 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, and 52 more deaths, health authorities informed here on Thursday.
 
Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI shows that out of the eight districts of the region, Aurangabad registered the highest number of cases at 1,702 cases and 23 deaths, followed by Jalna with 473 new cases and eight deaths,Nanded registered 1165 new cases and six deaths, Parbhani had 341 cases and six deaths, Beed had 299 cases and six deaths, Latur had 397 cases and two deaths, Hingoli had 139 cases and a single death and Osmanabad had 176 cases.
 
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours total 31,855 fresh cases of corona positive spotted across in the state, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 25,64,881, while 95 more deaths were also reported taking the death toll to 53,684.
 
Meanwhile, a total of 15,098 patients recovered and were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 22,62,593 across the state.
 
The recovery rates now stands at 88.21 per cent and fatality rate is 2.08 per cent.
 
At present there are 2,47,299 active patients across the state who are undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, they added.(UNI)
