Police register cases against temple, mosque authorities for allowing mass gatherings

Kannur: Police on Saturday registered cases against a temple and two mosque authorities in this district for allowing mass gatherings by neglecting the police orders in the wake of Coronavirus outbreak.
According to Thaliparamba police, they registered cases against 60 persons including the office bearers of Thrichabram Sree krishna temple under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and section 269 (unlawfully or negligently does any act) of IPC for holding a ritual function "Koodi piriyal" organized at the temple in which hundreds of devotees had participated.
 
Mattanur police registered cases against 200 odd persons including the mosque committee members and Khateeb of two Mosques-- Palattupalli and 19th Milepalli near Mattanur-- for conducting a mass juma prayer on Friday.
 
Earlier, the district administration appealed to all religious and political party representatives to avoid gathering of more than 50 people at a function.
 
Meanwhile, Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran said that strict action will be taken against those who conduct temple festivals and other functions ignoring government instructions to restrict mass gatherings.(UNI)
