In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the truce will remain in place until Iran submits a proposal and talks are concluded.
He said the decision was made at the request of Pakistan, to give Iranian leaders time to agree on what he called a unified proposal.
Trump added that he’s "directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other."
The president made the move even as the White House has put on hold Vice President JD Vance’s expected trip to Islamabad for a second round of talks as Tehran, at least for time being, is balking at further talks.
Pakistan's Sharif welcomes ceasefire extension
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked US President Donald Trump for accepting his country's request to extend the ceasefire.
"I sincerely hope that both sides will continue to observe the ceasefire and be able to conclude a comprehensive ‘Peace Deal’ during the second round of talks scheduled at Islamabad for a permanent end to the conflict," Sharif said in post on X.
Sharif vowed that his government would continue its "earnest efforts" to find a negotiated settlement for the conflict.
US sanctions network supplying Iran missile, drone programmes
The United States has imposed new sanctions on an international network accused of supplying weapons and components to Iran.
The Treasury Department says the measures target 14 individuals, companies and aircraft linked to Iran's missile and drone programs.
Those sanctioned are based in Iran, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, and are accused of sourcing drone parts and materials used in rocket fuel.
Iranian airline Mahan Air is named as a central player and is alleged to have transported weapons and drone systems. Several people and firms connected to the airline are also affected.
