Tamil Nadu: Man jumps of moving EMU to save friend, knocked down by another train

Chennai: In a freak mishap, a 26-year-old man who jumped off a moving EMU suburban train to save his friend, who slipped and fell off the train, was fatlally knocked down by another train coming from the opposite direction near Saidapet railway station in the city on Wednesday evening.
 
The deceased, identified as Gautham, was part of a group of friends who came to send off a friend to Singapore, police said.
 
Gautham along with his friends, Suveeth, Asaithambi, and two others had come to Chennai on Tuesday from Tirupattur.
 
Suveeth is bound for Singapore as part of work when the incident occurred, Police said.
 
After getting down at Chennai Central railway station, the friends boarded an EMU train at Park railway station--opposite to Central--to reach Tirusulam station for boarding the flight at the Airport.
 
When the train was passing between Mambalam and Saidapet railway stations, Asaithambi who was standing near the door, slipped and fell down.
 
While others alighted the train wehn it approached the platform as it slowed down at the Saidapet railway station, Gautham jumped from the train and fell on the tracks in a bid to save his friend.
 
"In a fraction of a second and within twinkle of eyes, an EMU train heading to Chennai Beach (in the opposite direction) knocked him down, while Asaithambi was lucky enough and escaped without any injuries.
 
A seriously injured Gautham was shifted to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
 
His body was sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for autopsy. 
 
Mambalam Police registered a case and are investigating. (UNI)
