Dev Diwali, also known as the “Festival of Lights of the Gods,” is one of the most sacred Hindu festivals. It is celebrated fifteen days after Diwali, mainly in North India — especially in Varanasi (Kashi) — with great grandeur and devotion. In 2025, this auspicious occasion will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 5. The day is marked by holy bathing (snan), charity (daan), and lighting countless lamps (deepdaan).
According to ancient belief, on this very day, Lord Shiva defeated the demon Tripurasura, freeing the universe from his tyranny. To celebrate this divine victory, all dieties illuminated the ghats of Kashi with lamps — giving birth to the tradition of Dev Deepawali.

As per religious traditions and astrology, odd numbers are considered highly auspicious for lighting lamps. You may choose according to your devotion and capacity:
5, 7, 9, 11, 21, 51, or 101 diyas.
Lighting 51 diyas is regarded as especially sacred, symbolizing completeness and divine grace.
2. 365-Wick Lamp (Diya for the Year):
Lighting a 365-wick diya is believed to yield the merit of performing deepdaan on every full moon throughout the year — it’s considered extremely auspicious.
Where to Perform Deepdaan?
Home Temple or Altar: Light the first diya here to invoke divine blessings.
Main Entrance: Place 2 or 5 diyas near the doorway to welcome Goddess Lakshmi and prosperity.
Tulsi Plant: Offer 1 diya beside the Tulsi plant to please Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.
North Direction: Light 1 diya in the northern area of your home — the abode of Lord Kuber (the god of wealth).
Under Peepal or Amla Tree: Light 1 diya here for divine blessings and removal of negativity.
Riverbanks or Holy Waters: Offer 5, 11, 21, or 101 diyas into sacred rivers like the Ganga, or local ponds, as a prayer for forgiveness and divine grace.
Important Note:
If you are lighting fewer diyas, always keep the number odd (5, 7, 11, etc.), and prioritize the above-mentioned sacred spots. Most importantly, perform Deepdaan with purity, faith, and devotion — for when the gods are pleased, every obstacle in life is gently removed.
