Shardiya Navratri has begun this year from Monday, September 22, to October 1, 2025. During these nine days, devotees worship Goddess Durga with great devotion. Many recite the Durga Chalisa daily, while others chant the Durga Saptashati. According to scriptures, there are special rules for reciting the Durga Chalisa, and following them is believed to bring the full blessings of the Goddess.
Rules for Reciting Durga Chalisa During Navratri
1. Beginning the Recitation

Wake up early, bathe, and wear clean clothes before starting the recitation.

If possible, add a few drops of Ganga water to your bath or purify yourself with it.
2. Setting Up the Place of Worship

Choose a quiet, sacred place where you will not be disturbed.

Place an idol or picture of Goddess Durga.

Keep the area clean and pure.
3. Taking a Sankalp (Resolution)

Before starting, take water and flowers in your hand and make a Sankalp (vow).

State your purpose clearly—whether it is for happiness, health, prosperity, or fulfillment of a wish.

After the Sankalp, pour the water on the ground as an offering.
4. Number of Recitations

It is auspicious to chant the Durga Chalisa multiple times a day.

You may recite it 3, 5, 7, 9, or 11 times daily as per your devotion.
5. During Recitation

Keep your mind calm and focused.

Pronounce each verse clearly and correctly.

Do not interrupt the recitation by talking or getting up.

If possible, keep a diya (lamp) and incense lit throughout.
6. After Completing the Recitation

Perform the Aarti of Goddess Durga.

Mentally repeat your wishes and pray for blessings.
7. Food and Discipline

Eat only Satvik food during Navratri (avoid onion, garlic, and non-vegetarian food).

If fasting, consume only fruits.

Observing celibacy during these nine days is considered very important.
8. Akhand Durga Chalisa Recitation

For those doing an uninterrupted nine-day recitation (Akhand path), chant at the same time and in the same place daily.

On the ninth day, perform a havan (sacred fire ritual) and offer food to young girls (Kanya Pujan).
Reciting the Durga Chalisa with discipline and devotion during Navratri is believed to remove all obstacles, bring peace and prosperity, and grant the special blessings of Goddess Durga.
