Pakistan police have launched an investigation into the marriage of a 14-year-old girl with a Member of National Assembly (MNA) from Balochistan, Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi.
Citing local media, Pak Observer has reported that the police have launched the probe after receiving a complaint from an NGO working for the welfare of women in Chitral.
As per reports, the girl was a student of ninth grade and she was born in 2006 in Daroosh area of Chitral.
In Pakistan, the law does not allow marriages of girls below the age of 16.
Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi, the Member of the National Assembly is in his late 50s, according to Pakistan media.
According to Pak Observer, the lawmaker has just solemnized Nikkah with the girl. A proper marriage ceremony has not been held yet.
Meanwhile, the lower Chitral DPO said that the father of the girl had assured the authorities that he would not send her daughter until she reached the age of 16.
