This year, Chaitra Amavasya falls on both March 18 and 19, as the Amavasya tithi begins on the morning of March 18 and ends on March 19. However, March 19 is considered the most suitable day for performing charity and religious acts.

What to Donate on Chaitra Amavasya

Offering the following items on this day is believed to help reduce Pitru Dosha and bring blessings:

  2. Donation of a cow to a Brahmin (symbolic or as per tradition)

  4. Food grains (anna daan)

2 Important Remedies for Chaitra Amavasya

These simple rituals are believed to bring peace to ancestors and reduce the effects of Pitru Dosha:

1. Worship of Peepal Tree: The Peepal Tree is believed to be associated with Lord Vishnu. Devotees should perform seven circumambulations (parikrama) of the tree and offer water. Lighting a mustard oil lamp near the tree is also considered highly beneficial for removing life obstacles.

2. Camphor Ritual at Home: In the evening, light camphor and spread its smoke throughout the house. This is believed to eliminate negative energy and invite peace, prosperity, and positivity into the home.

  1. Avoid consuming tamasic food, including onion and garlic
  2. Do not wake up late; early rising is considered auspicious
  3. Avoid performing any auspicious or celebratory rituals
