The holy festival of Nag Panchami is dedicated to the worship of snakes, who are considered divine and closely associated with Lord Shiva. Celebrated across India, this day holds immense religious importance. However, scriptures and traditions warn against certain actions on this day that may lead to misfortune. Here are 10 things you should strictly avoid on Nag Panchami:

Mistakes to Avoid on Nag Panchami

1. Do not harm or kill any snake on this day.

2. Avoid digging the earth as it can unintentionally disturb or harm them.

3. Do not cut green leaves or vegetables.

4. Plowing or tilling fields is prohibited to prevent harming any hidden snakes or their burrows.

5. Stitching with needle and thread is avoided on this sacred day.

6. Avoid cooking on iron utensils like tawa, kadahi.

7. Farmers do not use new crops without offering roti made from new grain to the snake mound (Sarp Gufa).

8. Worship should be offered to snake idols or mounds, not to live serpents.

9. Never feed milk to a snake. Contrary to common belief, snakes do not drink milk. Feeding milk may choke or even kill them.

10. Never worship a snake independently. They are worshipped as the sacred ornaments of Lord Shiva.
