11 'terrorists' held during Operation Sagar Kavach

Chennai: A total of 11 'terrorists' were 'arrested' as part of the 24-hour long Operation 'Sagar Kavach', a mock drill organised by the Marine police wing of the Coastal Security Group to test the defence preparedness of various security agencies to prevent Mumbai type terror attacks when terrorists infiltrated through the sea.

It was an exercise conducted by the coastal security group every year involving various agencies. During the exercise, which commenced at 0600 hrs this morning, the marine police 'arrested' 11 terrorists' who ‘tried to infiltrate into the city via sea and by road to carry out 'attacks' at vital installations and other places.

Organised by the Coast Guard, involving Navy, fishermen and State and Central security agencies, the drill will end at 0600 hours tomorrow. Police sources said a total of 11t 'terrorists' were arrested when they attempted to enter the city. While three persons were 'arrested' by the Marina police, another three were held by a team of Shastri Nagar police and two were apprehended at Kanathur on the ECR.

The sources aid two more 'terrorists' were arrested by the Neelangarai police at the Akkarai check post during vehicle checks when they attempted to enter the city by road from Mahabalipuram to Parry's Corner. Another 'terrorist' was arrested by the Harbour Police in North Chennai, when he tried to enter the city via sea. (UNI)
