Srinagar: At least eight civilians were injured in a grenade attack in Srinagar on Sunday, officials said.

The injured have been taken to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS) for treatment.

Officials said the blast occurred at the bustling Sunday market near the Tourist Reception Centre in Srinagar, triggering panic as shoppers scrambled for cover.

"Among the injured are seven men and one woman, all of whom are currently stable," said a doctor at SMHS Hospital.

Soon after the incident, Police and central armed police forces cordoned the area to track down those responsible for the attack.

This grenade attack took place a day after a senior most Pakistani militant commander linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Usman Lashkari alias Chota Waleed, was killed by security forces in Srinagar’s old city.
