A Bangladeshi working as teacher in govt school in Assam, arrested

Guwahati: An illegal Bangladeshi migrant, working as a teacher in a government school and also engaged in NRC work, was arrested from Moirabari in Morigaon district of central Assam late last night.
Morigaon superintendent of police Swapnanil Deka said today that the arrested person, Khairul Islam, was identified as a foreigner by a Foreigners' Tribunal of Morigaon district in 2015.
 
He had, however, managed to evade the authorities and was working as a teacher in Thensali Khondapukhuri Primary School in Morigaon district and was also engaged in the work of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) for the state, the final draft of which was published on July 30 last.
 
Deka said Islam was arrested while in hiding from Moirabari and police are on the look out for the rest of his family members, including his mother, sister and two brothers.The SP said Islam will be sent to the detention camp for identified foreigners in Tezpur for further course of action.(UNI)
