Lucknow:In a twist to a new political development in Uttar Pradesh in the run up to 2022 assembly polls, Aam Admi Party(AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh met Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday.
The meeting was held at the Janeshwar Mishra Trust building adjoining the state SP HQ on Saturday noon. The meeting gave a new equation between the two parties and possible alliance in the coming assembly polls.

Akhilesh had said repeatedly that this time his party will have coalition with smaller parties in the UP assembly polls. But the AAP leader who is UP-in charge told reporters here that he met the SP scion informally to share belated birthday wishes.

Downplaying the meeting, he lashed out at BJP for overtaking the UP district panchayat polls being held today.

"We have met several times. His birthday was on July 1 and I could not meet him then, hence I visited to wish him. This is a casual meeting, no one should draw any other conclusion from it," Mr Singh clarified.

AAP and SP had recently joined forces to accuse the Ram Mandir Trust of an alleged land scam.

He added, "We did talk about District Panchayat polls. If 22 District panchayat chiefs are being elected unopposed, that means the polls have been overtaken by the UP govt". When asked about a possible AAP-SP alliance, "Today only an informal meet has happened".

Commenting on the meeting, AAP Spokesperson Vaibhav Maheshwari said, "Any alliance against communal forces is welcome. We are not present at booth-level in UP, so all options are open. People of UP are mentally depressed and BJP is busy putting up hoardings. We can ally with anyone if our agenda suits."There is no reaction of the meeting from SP side yet.(UNI)
