Kolkata: After recovering over Rs 20 crore unaccounted money from the Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee's close aide Arpita Mukherjee's Tollygunj flat, the ED investigating the money trails of alleged SSC scam on Wednesday seized around Rs 28 crore in Mukherjee's Belgharia flat in North 24 Parganas.

“Rs 27.9 crore cash, around five kilos of gold, silver coins, property deeds and other documents were seized from Arpita’s flat located in Belgharia Town Club in Kolkata. It took several hours to count the notes with the help of bank officials and counting machines,” said an ED official.

Mukherjee has been arrested on a day when West Bengal former education minister now holding the Commerce ministry Partha Chatterjee was arrested on July 22.

The minister was arrested on Saturday on money-laundering charges linked to the SSC

(School Service Commission) scam. The arrest was made as he was accused of illegal appointments of school teachers and staff in government-run schools when he was holding the education ministry.

Chatterjee is in ED custody in connection with the teachers' recruitment scam.

The ED uncovered nearly 20 crore 90 lakh during a raid at Mukherjee's Tollygunj flat on July 22. (Inputs from agencies)
