New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday announced that Agniveers recruited under the new scheme of the Defence Ministry will be given preference in Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles.

"'Agneepath Yojana is a visionary and welcome decision of Narendra Modi ji for the bright future of youth. In this context, today the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to give priority to Agniveers who have completed four years under this scheme in the recruitment of CAPFs and Assam Rifles," the Home Ministry said in a tweet.

"With this decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, the youth trained by 'Agneepath Yojana' will be able to contribute in the service and security of the country even further. Detailed planning work has started on this decision," MHA said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with three service chiefs, on Tuesday launched the Agneepath scheme, under which youth will be given an opportunity to serve in the armed forces as "Agniveers."

This year, 46,000 youth between 17.5 to 21 years will be selected for the scheme.  (UNI)
