New Delhi: As snowfall disrupted the Kedranath pilgrimage, thunderstorms, accompanied by 50-70 kmph squalls, were forecast on Tuesday at isolated pockets over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
India Meteorological Department warned of possible thunderstorms, accompanied by squall (wind speed reaching 50-70 kmph) and hail at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Rain or thundershowers, IMD stated, are very likely at Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Chandigarh in the next 24 hours. 'Rain/thundershowers very likely at most places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand; many places over West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi; at a few places over north Rajasthan and East Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hrs and significant decrease thereafter,' according to the forecast.
Rainfall or thunderstorm are expected at many places over northeastern states and parts of West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha and Jharkhand during the next four-five days. Light to moderate rainfall is likely over extreme south peninsula (Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry) during the next five days. Rainfall activity is very likely to extend to north Peninsula, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from 11th onwards. Thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Thunderstorm, accompanied by gusty winds, are very likely at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Bihar, West Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Heavy rain is very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala. The Met Department has also forecast hot weather condition over Maharashtra with heat wave conditions at one or two pockets over Vidarbha. (UNI)
