AMU PhD scholar joins Hizbul; photo flaunting AK-47 goes viral

Srinagar: An Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) PhD scholar from Kupwara, who had gone missing few days back, has reportedly joined militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen, as his picture flaunting an AK-47 rifle has gone viral on social media.Manaan Bashir Wani, who was pursuing doctorate in earth science-Geology at AMU, was scheduled to return home in village Takipora in Lolab, Kupwara few days back from Delhi. However, he didn’t reach home.

Few days later, a picture of Wani flaunting an AK-47 rifle went viral on social media, including Facebook and Whatsapp. However, a senior police official said that credentials of the picture are being verified.This is not the first time that youth have announced joining militant ranks by flaunting assault rifles on social media. In the past also youth have posting pictures and videos, announcing joining militant ranks.

However, seven youth, including an ace footballer, returned home after shunning violence in the valley. Police has announced that no case will be registered against these youth, who will be provided all assistance to start afresh and leading a normal life.(UNI)
