Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Board (UPSCB) here on Tuesday decided not to file review petition against the Supreme Court's November 9 judgement on Ayodhya title suit but kept the option open on the 5 acres of land to be given for construction of a new mosque.
The decision of the Board, which was taken by majority, stood by the opinion of chairman Zufur Farooqui, who had announced on November 9 not to file the review petition.
All India Muslim Personal Law Board(AIMPLB) on November 17 had decided to file the review petition before December 9 on behalf of at least four Muslim litigants.
In meeting on Tuesday noon six members supported not to file the review petition while just one member opposed it.
Board's chairman Zufur Farooqui, told reporters after the meeting that the members reiterated its stand that it will not file any review petition.
"However, member Abdur Razzaq Khan, has put in his dissent as he was in favour of filing the review petition," he said.
There was also heated discussion between the members during the meeting too, when Abdul Razzaq Khan put his dissent note and favoured filing of the review petition.
Another member Imran Mabood, had opposed the chairman's decision not to file the review petition. However, he was absent in the meeting.
Talking about the land to be given for the mosque, the chairman said," all further actions, in compliance of the order of the SC including the issue of 5 acres of land in Ayodhya are still in consideration of the Board and no decision in this regard has been taken as yet."
The chairman said that the members have asked for more time to formulate their views on the 5 acres of land."A meeting will be called of the Board when the government gives its proposal of the land for the mosque," he further said.
Earlier AIMPLB along with several clerics have claimed that no mosque can be built on a land donated by the government and it is against the Sharia.
However, sources said that most of the members favoured of taking the 5 acres of land but they insisted that along with the mosque, an international university should also be constructed on that place.
