Bengaluru: As many as 14 people have died in the fire accident at a cracker shop, according to police.
Out of the 14 people who died, 12 were charred to death at the spot Saturday, the police said, adding that two more died on Sunday while undergoing treatment.
The owner of the property also is one among the injured and a case has been registered against him, besides one person was also arrested, police said.
The accident occurred inside the shop-cum-godown at Attibele in Anekal Taluk around 3.30 pm while unloading a firecracker carton from a transport vehicle, the police said.
The fire was brought under control by nine fire tenders, Bengaluru Rural SP Mallikarjun Baladandi said.
Most of the victims hail from the neighbouring Tamil Nadu districts of Tirupattur and Kallakurichi, the police stated.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Satlin offered condolences and announced a cash relief of Rs three lakhs to the next of kin of the deceased. He also announced a compensation of Rs one lakh each to the severely injured and Rs 50,000 to those who sustained minor injuries.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condoled the death of the people, and his deputy visited the accident spot and announced a compensation of Rs five lakhs to each of the kin of the deceased. (UNI)
