A 22-year-old pregnant woman’s decomposed body was found inside her Bengaluru home on Wednesday afternoon. Her husband reportedly killed her and stayed in the house for two days before fleeing.

The victim identified as Sumana was three months pregnant, as per a TOI report. Neighbours alerted police after noticing a foul smell coming from the locked house. When the door was forced open, the decomposed body of Sumana was found. As per police, the incident took place two days earlier.

The accused husband, Shivam, 20, works as a painter and hails from Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh.

Police said the couple had been in love for five years and got married six months ago against their families’ wishes. They had moved to Bengaluru around five months ago.

Police said, "There was bleeding from Sumana's nose, but no other injuries were found."

At the scene, the police also found liquor tetra packs and leftover food, indicating Shivam had continued to stay in the house after the murder.

The report quoted police as saying "Suspecting infidelity, Shivam used to pick up fights with her over petty issues". On Monday night, they had an argument, and he allegedly assaulted her. The two slept in separate rooms that night.

Police said, "He tried to wake her up the next morning. When she didn't respond, he prepared food, ate it, and left for work." He returned home that night, consumed alcohol, and ate again — while her body remained in the other room.

On Wednesday morning, when he tried to wake her again, he realised that she was dead. He then fled the house.

Police tracked and arrested him on Thursday afternoon.

Police investigation is underway.
