Panaji: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said the state government kept the option of importing beef from neighboring Karnataka open. Responding to a question raised by Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral during question hour of the state assembly, monsoon session of which began today, he said, 'We have not closed the option to stop getting meat from Belgaum in Karnataka to ensure that there is no shortage." "I can assure you that inspection of beef from neighboring state will be done by a proper medical doctor those who are authorized to do it, rather than by others."
In a written reply, the chief minister said many cows were slaughtered, which produced around 2000 kg of beef at the Goa Meat Complex, the state's legal abattoir, located in Ponda, around 40 km from the state capital. "The production by Goa meat Complex Ltd is approximately 2000 kg per day. The rest is met by importing from Karnataka. The government does not have any intention to restrict bringing animals for slaughtering at the Goa Meat Complex from neighboring state," he said. (UNI)
