New Delhi: Holding the BJP governments at the Centre and in various states as responsible for failing to check the incidents of violent protests against the film 'Padmaavat across the country, the Congress on Thursday said the BJP is trying to play politics on the issue and has failed to maintain law and order in the various states.

Talking to reporters, AICC spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi, strongly condemning Wednesday's incident of stone pelting on a school bus in Gurugram carrying children by those protesting against the release of 'Padmaavat', said, 'The BJP is playing politics on the issue and has ignored its primary responsibility of maintaining law and order.'

Terming the incident of stone pelting on a school bus in Gurugram 'sad' and strongly condemnable', Ms Chaturvedi said, 'The incident is the latest example that the Manohar Lal Khattar Government of Haryana has failed to maintain law and order in the state as was evidenced in its inability to check the violent incidents during tge agitation for jat resertvations and the arrest of Ram Rahim.

The law and order in the state seems to have totally collapsed ever since the Khattar Government came to power in the state.'Charging the BJP Governments at the Centre and states with maintaining a silence on the violent protests against 'Padmaavat' in various parts of the country, Ms Chaturvedi said, 'It is the Central Board of Film Certification, that come under the Information and broadcasting Ministry, that has cleared the film for exhibition across the country after some modifications. One the film has been cleared by the censor Board, it is the primary responsibility of the state governments and the Centre to ensure a smooth release and the screening of the film.

However, as has been seen by the violent incidents across the country, the BJP governments at the Centre as well as in various states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Goa are maintaining a silence on the issue. This clearly shows that the BJP is playing politics in the matter and has failed to maintain law and order in the states.'Violent protests have been witnessed from across the country by activists of the Rajput Karni Sena.(UNI)
