New Delhi: Several BJP lawmakers on Monday lashed out at Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury for his reported remarks that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were 'infiltrators' and insisted that the member from West Bengal should tender an unconditional apology.
BJP MP Uday Pratap Singh, who had given Notice for Adjournment Motion over 'derogatory remarks made by Chowdhury', raising the issue during Zero Hour said such remarks against top BJP leaders were not acceptable.
"Prime Minister Modi is not merely a BJP leader, he is the pride of the nation," he said amid support from several party colleagues.
"Mr Chowdhury is a senior member of the House and thus he should tender apology," he said.A number of treasury bench MPs were up on their feet demanding apology from the Congress leader.Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and his junior colleague Arjun Ram Meghwal also demanded that Mr Chowdhury should tender apology forthwith.
Amid the din as many BJP MPs raised their voice against him, the Congress leader said first they should listen to him and only then they should insist for his apology.
BJP lawmaker Uday Pratap Singh said a mafia is operating in West Bengal to encourage infiltrators come and settle down in the state and it is his party (BJP) that is trying to work against the illegal infiltrators.
"You will have to tender apology....," said Mr Meghawal.Parliamentary Affairs Minister Joshi said: "Mr Chowdhury's remarks that Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah are infiltrators have to be condemned in strongest terms"."Prime Minister is a national leader who has solid mandate of the people," said Mr Joshi.(UNI)
